I recently read an article from the Insurance Journal that really surprised me. The Consumer Federation of America (CFA) conducted a recent report and found that the largest auto insurers often charge higher premiums to safe drivers than to those who recently caused an accident! In my experience as an independent insurance agent, I can say this doesn't happen very often with the companies I represent.
The CFA study priced policies in 12 cities using the 5 largest auto insurers (State Farm, Allstate, GEICO, Farmers, and Progressive) and found that two-thirds of the time the safe drivers had higher premiums than the unsafe drivers!
What do all the insurance companies in this study have in common? They are all ONLINE companies that offer direct policies without an agent. As an independent agent, we are your licensed and trained advocate, we are not an online rating engine or employed by the insurance company. You, our customer and client, are our employers. Having dozens of insurance companies that we represenet gives us the ability to make sure this type of thing doesn't happen to our clients and the safe drivers of Minnesota!
If you are a safe driver don't you think you should pay less than a driver with an accident? If you have State Farm, Allstate, GEICO, Farmers, or Progressive auto insurance please contact us for free review of your policy to make sure you aren't paying too much for your car insurance.
